"Laura pinpointed what I wanted and put an event together that gave us an opportunity to clarify and focus our goals for the year ahead. With this period of quality time we were also able to gain insight into each other's personality and skills and ended the day with a clear plan of how we could progress."

TRAINING

Successful organisations invest in staff development and training. This is particularly important when managing change, improving communications and ensuring a flexible and adaptable business. Staff skills are improved as well as providing a boost to motivation and commitment. So far so good. But at mtc² ltd we take training beyond the obvious. Why do you need what you want? How can that be accomplished? That way we can match our expertise to your need so that our training will really make a difference. Are you ready for the challenge?

The trainer said to the group, "Here's a real example for you. Listen to this and picture the scene. Feel what you would have felt in that situation and then let me know what you think."

The salesman turned up at Paul and Barbara's home to measure for fitted wardrobes. It was a large order and would earn him good commission. Paul brought out a rough sketch of what they wanted. "Oh you don't need that," the salesman said, "I've done this lots of times. You may think you know what you want but you'll be surprised." And he started measuring.

Paul then said that they were looking for office furniture. "Oh, you've got a study? I like doing studies far better than bedrooms", said the salesman.

"Actually, it's my office," said Barbara. He turned his attention to her and raised his eyebrows. "So you've got a study?" "No," she replied, "I have an office."

"Okay", said the salesman, and said back to Paul, "Let's get things measured up."

The trainer then asked, "We can consider the obvious failings in this circumstance but to truly improve your techniques, what else can you tell me?"

"People will teach you how to sell them if you pay attention to the messages they send you."
