For a long time John could not walk. He spent months in bed as a young boy, reading copious amounts and watching the people around him. It intrigued him how people he knew well from his observations didn't actually know what impact they were making on each other. He watched their mannerisms, and noted their behaviours, listened to their speech, thought about what this meant until he could really grasp its importance. He made up stories about the people around him which he wrote down in a small, corner curled exercise book. And then put it to one side.
Years later he was asked by a friend to visit an organisation that had been termed "dysfunctional". It was failing in all senses. Productivity was poor, disputes were rife, there was a high turn-over of staff. His friend wanted John to come in and suggest what could be done.
John went in for the day and later his friend anxiously questioned him. Did he know what could be done to improve things? John gave his friend the old, corner curled exercise book. "There's a lifetime of knowledge in that book my friend. You can either spend months reading it on your own or allow me to guide you through it to apply the solutions. It's your choice."
